Dallas, TX – Ana Lopez (center) of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County accepted two prestigious Honor Awards from Dr. Damon Williams (right), SVP of Programs at BGCA, and Arianna Skinner (left) 2016-2017 National Military Youth of the Year. The award was recently presented during Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 111th National Conference in Dallas, Texas and are for the organizations program serving youth recently released from Juvenile Hall, and for its Intramural sports league. Each honoree also receives a $5,000 award from MetLife Foundation, sponsor of the annual recognition program, which honors local Clubs for innovative, effective programming leading youth to great futures. Each year, hundreds of entries are submitted in the five core program areas: character and leadership development; education and career development; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness and recreation, but only one Honor Award is presented in each area.
“We are humbled and honored to receive two top level awards, out of 4,000 organizations nation-wide, but we are even more proud of the impact that we have on the thousands of Sonoma County young people we serve every day.” – Jennifer Weiss, Chief Executive Officer, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County.
The Honor Award for Program Excellence in Health and Life Skills recognizes the program that helps members develop the capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, help them set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
The Honor Award for Program Excellence in Sports, Fitness and Recreation is presented to a Club conducting an outstanding program that helps young people become physically fit, make positive use of leisure time, develop social and stress management skills, and appreciate the environment.
