Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County welcomes Tomorrow’s Leaders Today and its team, families, youth, and partners. This exciting move brings additional life-changing programs to the Club’s robust youth-development portfolio.
“TLT’s mission to develop & empower youth to become collaborative leaders and productive members of their communities is a natural fit in our organization as we aim to inspire all young people to do the same,” says Club Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Weiss.
In 2014, the then independent TLT merged with Social Advocates for Youth and has operated as a program of SAY since then. Katrina Thurman, CEO of SAY, announced the transition on Tuesday, “For the past 2.5 years, SAY has been honored to work with the talented professionals in the TLT program. And we have loved adding their wisdom and energy to the SAY team – in addition to helping the program expand into West County in 2015.”
TLT will continue offering youth opportunities to develop their leadership, explore their community, and discover new careers paths. Teens from 19 Sonoma County High Schools come together in a year-long, cohort based learning community. There they utilize their leadership skills to make a lasting impact in our community.
Boys & Girls Clubs seeks to ensure TLT’s success in the transition and beyond. An Advisory Council comprised of long time TLT supporters has been formed. The council will aid the Clubs as it brings the program in house later this month.
Lisa Wittke Schaffner, Executive Director of the John Jordan Foundation and SAY Board Member, supports the move and will join the advisory council, “I couldn’t be more excited to continue championing the work of Tomorrow’s Leaders Today at Boys & Girls Clubs. The John Jordan Foundation has been a longtime supporter of both Boys & Girls Clubs and SAY.I know this transition will be seamless and I look forward to working on the Advisory Council,” she says. “TLT will pair outstanding leadership, career, and empowerment programs with the Club’s expert service delivery. It’s a natural fit.”
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County serves 6,000 youth annually at 32 locations throughout Cloverdale, Geyserville, Healdsburg, Guerneville, Monte Rio, Windsor, Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park. The Clubs provide a safe place, caring adult mentors, and high-impact youth development programs on a daily basis during critical non-school hours. The organization seeks to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
The mission of Tomorrow’s Leaders Today is to develop and empower youth to become collaborative leaders and productive members of their communities. Since inception over 25 years ago, TLT has served more than 2,000 Sonoma County youth and 154 more will graduate from the program later this month.
